The laminated glass consists of two or more glass plates held by one or more interlayers of elastic and very durable film typically EVA - Ethylene Vinyl Acetate or PVB - Polyvinyl Butyral. Due to the fact that various types of glass can be laminated together and the existance of not only transparent but also opaque and colorful interlayers creates a huge variety of options for the application of laminated glass for the exterior and interior.

Most of all the laminated glass can be characterized with safety.
The interlayer keeps the layers of glass bonded even when broken, and its high strength prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces and thus many injuries can be prevented. Combining certain number of glass pieces with certain number of interlayers can achieve characteristics such as burglar and bullet resistance.

Another useful property of the laminated glass is its high noise reduction capability, which makes it a perfect component in an insulating glass unit.

A disadvantage for this type of glass is the fact that it is a strong as the weakest glass of which it consists, but this can be easlily overcome by the use of tempered glass instead.

Most common applications of the laminated glass are:

  • Roof constructions.
  • Use in insulating glass units for domestic and commercial use.
  • Ballistrades and separation walls.
  • Burglar and bullet resistance for banks and markets.
  • For the automotive, aviation and shipbuilding industries.
